Function
Betacarotene is a powerful antioxidant derived from plants that protect body cells from damage caused by free radicals and this protects the body from disease such as cancer and heart disease. Betacarotene is converted to vitamin A in the liver.)

Broccoli, peaches, fennel seed, red pepper, turnip, mustard and dandelion greens, carrot, spinach, silverbeet, sweet potato, tomato, apricot, alfalfa, lemongrass, peppermint, spirulina, pumpkin, parsley, papaya, cantaloupe, yellow squash, apricots, kelp and rose hip.

Deficiency Symptoms
Night blindness, inflamed gums, dry eyes, low resistance to infection, hardened or dry skin and or hair.

Overdose Symptoms
It is not possible to overdose on betacarotene unless your body cannot convert beta carotene into vitamin A. the skin may take on a yellowish hue if betacarotene is taken in quantities over 100,000 iu daily.

Interactions
Prolonged consumption of betacarotene may reduce levels of vitamin E.
