Lupus symptoms

My mother has lupus, and has been given a number of drugs that seemed to do more harm than good. Two of her symptoms are loss of energy and extreme body soreness. Are there any herbal remedies (or holistic approaches) that can relieve these ailments?

Dear,

Fatigue, poor endurance and general body aches and pains are common among lupus patients. There are several simple remedies that may help with your mother’s fatigue. First, you might try panax ginseng. I would suggest 2 caps in the morning. Supplement the ginseng with a high-potency multiple vitamin/mineral supplement. Rather than having her take just 1 per day, have her take 2, twice daily. Green tea during the day (1-2 caps) would also be helpful, because of its ability to support the immune system (even though it does contain some caffeine).

For her soreness, try borage/flax capsules (3 caps, 2 times daily), curcumin powdered herb (2 caps daily) and bromelain (350-1000 mg. daily). These all have anti-inflammatory effects.

I would also recommend a whole-foods diet that is low in animal fats and simple carbohydrates, but high in grains, fruits, veggies, legumes and vegetable and fish proteins.
